Dissociative identity disorder, formerly known as Multiple personality disorder, has been a controversial topic in the mental health field since its occurrence. Many individuals are uneducated about this disorder thus causing many fallacies and improper representation of the individuals who experience Dissociative identity disorder (DID). One improper representation of Dissociative Identity Disorder that can be readily analyzed is the movie Me, Myself, and Irene. In this movie a character named Charlie, who is played by Jim Carrey, has Dissociative Identity Disorder. Charlie is a small town cop of Rhode Island and is portrayed as too nice and a pushover. During the movie Charlie does go through many situations where he suppresses his feelings to avoid confrontation such as; his wife leaving him, the neighbor’s dog defecating in his yard, the neighbor stealing his newspaper, individuals not listening to him when he ask them to abide by the law, and people taking advantage of him. The multiple personality appears after a lady in the grocery store comes up to him with two items and ask if she can go first because she is in a hurry. Charlie politely agrees and she then proceeds to call her three kids up that have two carts full of groceries into the line. Charlie then appears to have a partial seizure which indicates that Hank has arrived. Hank then proceeds to take revenge on every individual that has made him suppress his feelings of anger. This is inconsistent with what Dissociative identity disorder really is. It does not state anywhere in the DSM-5 that a multiple personality is created to take revenge on those who don’t listen to instruction or take advantage of an
