In the passage “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” written by Mr.Edwards is very reasonable passage that is considered to have a strong theme. Edwards strongly shows that sinners should be punished by death from God by writing in the passage in second person point of view which makes it much more personal. Edwards is very abrupt and dramatic about his stance on why people should repent and give their lives to God. Mr. Hawthorne wrote “The Black Veil”, which is a calm story that is written in third person point of view omniscient about a preacher who arrives to church just as any Sunday, but the only thing different about him is that he wears a black veil. It is a very relaxed passage. In Edwards’ passage he comes across angry at the sinners for being rebellious and not turning to God. He goes on to say, “...nothing can save you…” in his passage. It could be taken that he is saying that if you don’t repent it’s your fault your soul will be sent to Hell to burn and suffer for all eternity. Mr. Hawthorne similarly shows in his text that he thinks that if you hide your sins you will be casted into the lake of fire..
