Sir William Wallace

Introduction:

Sir William Wallace, was the Scottish hero. He was born on 3rd April 1272 in Elderslie, Renfrewshire, Scotland. He died on 23rd August 1305 near Smithfield Elms, London, England. His remains is in Newcastle (England), Perth and Aberdeen. Execution caused his death. His parents were Magaret Carawford and Malcolm Wallace. He had an older and a younger brother, the older brother's name was Malcolm, and the youngest was John. He was married to Marion Braidfute. William and his family were a small landowner. In 1296 King Edward the first of England imprisoned the Scottish King John de Balliol and declared himself ruler of Scotland. Due to this reason William had to battle to get independence for Scotland.

The reason why William did this was that the sheriff had beaten up his uncle. To kill the sheriff, William got a band of 30 men to burn Lanark and kill the English sheriff for his uncle's revenge.
How was the reputation ruined?

It was June 22nd when Edward's archers defeated William's spearmen in the Battle of the Falkirk. Since William was army was defeat, his reputation was ruined. He had to resign his guardianship in December.

Was William a Hero or Villain:

William was a hero in several ways. He was a hero because he was Guardian of the Kingdom, he won the Battle of the Stirling Bridge, killed the English Sheriff, try to get Scottland free from English. Every time someone goes and read about Sir William Wallace, everyone has always mentioned about William being the Hero of Scotland. He is definitely a Hero of Scotland.

Conclusion:

William was arrested near Glasgow on 5th August 1305. He was taken to London near Smithfield Elms, William was condemned as a traitor to the king. He was hanged up, and he was disembowelled beheaded. In 1306 Bruce raised the rebellion that eventually won independence for Scotland. Scotland was under English rulers for ten years. Williams hard work paid
