The two short stories found very comparable by readers and share very complex dynamics are “Interpreter of Maladies” and “The Lady with the Dog”. Anton Chekhov and Jhumpa Lahiri, the authors of the short stories, both used situational irony within the context of their literature while expressing the affairs within their stories. The two short stories were written in different era’s, but relate to one-another due to similar plots, themes, and ideas. The authors come from completely different backgrounds, although they seem to relate to each other through their works in literature. These two stories are similar in their themes of extramarital affairs, negative depictions of women and situational irony.

Another example that helps readers identify situational irony is looking at Mrs.Das from an outside perspective, she seems to be living a great life and is happily married, although in reality, she isn’t happy at all and the result of that is her illegitimate son. Although the Das family faces many obstacles, “Mr. and Mrs. Das's lack of carefulness in raising their children extends to their carelessness in maintaining their marriage vows, at least on Mrs. Das's part” (Brada-Williams).
