Slavery was a life that I never wanted or imagined, but it turned out there was nothing at the time I could do. At a young age, I was separated from my mother due to the plantation owner and the presence of my birth was not known to me for a while. Later on, I was sent to Hugh Auld, another slave plantation owner, where I learned to read and write from his wife and surprisingly she wasn’t that cruel to me. After my time was up, I moved on alone and kept learning and developing my reading skills throughout time to time. I was hired by a man named William Freeland and I was able to teach other slaves how to read until the owners found out almost all of them were educated. I was sent to and beaten up by Edward Covey for this act, but I decided
