For a number of years now, there has been a large divide between the Northern and Southern states of this country regarding slavery. This is mainly due to the different lifestyles Northern and Southern people have. Slavery hardly exists in the North, as they rely on immigrant labor in the factories. In the South, many large plantations exist which rely on slave labor. Now, there is much debate on which new territories should be slave or free and events such as the Dred Scott case and threats of Southern secession are escalating tensions. There needs to be action taken or else the North and South will go to war.
