The role of sled dogs during the alaskan gold rush was very important because the people who traveled up there in search of their fortune needed a way to transport supplies that were inaccessible through alternative methods. While rivers provided excellent transportation opportunities, the extreme weather of Alaska called for an alternative eans of transportation. Thus the interest in Sled Dogs was reinvigorated. Most gold camps were only accessible by dogsled teams in the winter.
