1. Mexicans Americans faced many civil right issues in the mid-twentieth century. For example, in a document called “2 Citizens Committee for the Defense of Mexican-American Youth, The Sleepy Lagoon Case, 1942” is stated that the young Mexican Americans where charge of the murder of Jose Diaz. Every young Mexican where judge by how they dressed, and accusing them of the murder. However, “at the end twelve young Mexicans were convicted of murder and five for assault” by the judge” (“2 Citizens Committee for the Defense of Mexican-American Youth, The Sleepy Lagoon Case, 1942”) After the court decision the community organized a committee called Sleepy Lagoon Defense Committee. The union was meant to help farmers obtain better treatment, and salary’s. Chaves helped many farmers that had no civil rights, however the government was not happy with that. The government was scared that many people were protesting, and labeled as union of violence. Cesar Chaves was not happy with his union and started to feast.
