Chris Eyres utilizes various scene with fire and water to correspond with Victor’s ability to accept his past and forgave his father. In the beginning of Smoke Signal, Thomas talks about Victor and himself being the fire children that is born of flame and ash. The children of flame if born to burn everything that touches him which represented Victor in the movie. Victor is best fit for the children of flame because he is always angry and willing to fight back to an situation he comes across with. This led him to a scared personality that makes it hard for him to accept his past and be unable to forgive his father at the beginning of the movie. On the other hand, the children of ash fell apart when they are being touched by something. With that, Thomas best represent the children of ashes since he is the result after the fire and also because of his fragile and delicate personality. It’s significant how Victor’s father died in Phoenix since Phoenix is a bird that burned itself and rise from ashes with renewed youth. This is significant because Victor’s father died and is being release from the anxiety of the fire he cause. The fire that Victor’s father create is an important rising action because it led Victor to know the truth behind his father alcoholic addiction and behavior which is important for Victor to forgive his father and start to understand why his past are turn out this way. Fire can also be the cleansing of sin while it burn and destroy things which is related to Victor’s father died since he was burn to be cleansed from the action he created. Also, the burn of the trailer is cleansing Arnold too since he is able to return to his home and live in the trailer by himself anymore.
