A hot topic trend being talked about in the social space today is regarding the number of mergers that are currently taking place. Snapchat has partnered up with Square to create what is called ‘Snapcash’. It enables snapchatters to exchange money within the chat feature of Snapchat. Users just need to link their debit or credit cards with the Snapchat application. They can send Snapcash to any of their friends as long as they are also eligible to receive Snapcash. This is done by typing a dollar sign and a monetary amount, e.g. $10, and hitting the green button, which will send $10 to the recipients back account. Square stores the credit card details and processes all Snapcash payments. Users can send and receive snaps to each other within seconds, no matter where they are in the world. Once a user opens my snap, I can see straight away when they have opened it, without having to refresh the page. If a friend is writing to me on snapchat, I will receive a notification telling me that they are currently writing me a message, before they even decide the send their message. It is this kind of instant recognition and real time updates that separates Snapchat from other social networking companies. Snapchat have also released a new feature in the past few months which is its own version of FaceTime. Users simply have to swipe right into the chat section of any one of their friends.
