I felt honored that my teammates looked to me to take such a critical role for our team, but I was apprehensive that I would not be good enough. Throughout the game, my teammates and I encouraged each other to keep playing our hardest and to not give up. This pace of play is how we found ourselves tied with a score of zero to zero. Since the game needed a winner, we went into a penalty shootout. Just as my team looked to me to fill Emily’s role, they looked to me, as well as four other players, to take these kicks and win the game. I was able to make my first shot, despite the shear amount of pressure I was enduring. Unfortunately, this was not enough as we were still tied after five kicks were taken. This puts us into a sudden death situation where the first team to win a round of kicks won the game. Our opponents made the first kick, putting the pressure onto us, more specifically me, to make the next one. My coach looked to me with a simple nod and a “you got this” so there I found myself standing in front of the goal, about to take my shot that I had to make in order to keep us in the game.
