Basketball and soccer are two sports that are similar but have many differences. Many people enjoy both soccer and basketball. They are popular sports played all around the world. I chose these two sports as my topic because they are very similar yet have many differences. Comparing and contrasting these topics could really open eyes of someone. They will realize how similar the two are or notice how completely different they can be. Let us look at some differences and similarities. Firstly, we have basketball contests and soccer contests. Basketball contests are called matches. Even though they are named differently, both soccer matches and basketball games have the same purpose. You have to pass, shoot, and score. Pass the ball to your team-mate, shoot the ball to your target, and score a point or more. The rules can be completely different or have some similarities. For example, you play basketball with your hands but you are not allowed to use your feet. On the other hand, you play soccer with your feet but you are not allowed to use your hands. The only time you are allowed to use your hands in a soccer match is if you are throwing the ball into the field as a result of a throw-in. A throw-in in basketball can bounce downward into the court. In soccer matches, you have to bring the ball above and behind your head with two hands and then release the ball into the field throwing it over your head.
