How Has Social Media Changed Society

People watching on a subway is a great way to see the new trends of the nation. The stations and trams are filled with a mix of people of all different ages, backgrounds, and walks of life, but among them there is one common trend; weather sitting, standing or walking, most of them were connected to some form of media device. Some of the people were talking on the phone, others texting, some were updating their status on Facebook or Twitter, and others watched videos on their tablet or IPad. Seeing this I began to ponder about how social media is changing the way that people interact with each other. Because so many people are more focused on what is happening online behind the screens of their digital devices, many people tune out the real world around them. For this paper I decided to look into the question, How has social media changed our society? This question is very relevant to our lives today because as social media changes our society many things will change with it.
I started by thinking how many people have a Facebook account that they use on a regular basis? What do these people use these accounts for? By posing a few of these questions in my mind I thought about how social media can be very useful to us in many ways. According to Lisa Reichelt, social media allows you to "... keep in touch with people with a level of regularity and intimacy that you wouldn’t usually have access to, because time and space conspire to make it impossible."
