What is the history of this program?
• President Franklin Roosevelt started a program in the 1930’s called “Social Security”. At this point in time, the Great depression was taking place; therefore, the poverty rates were over 50%. Due to this high rate, Social Insurance was created. “Social insurance” is Social security; it was just changed later down the road.

Who benefits from this program and how?
• A previous employer makes payments for social security after they retire. Those who retire are the ones who will benefit from social security.

What is the yearly cost to the American tax payers? Historical cost data?
• By an American taxpayer, the average amount taken from their income to support the social security is roughly about 62%.

What are the professional opinions in support of and against the program?
• The people who are retired or are planning on retiring soon are the people who are highly in favor of the Social Security System. Social security is meant to be more of a supplement to you retirement funds. Those that are not in favor of the system are the ones who think that the money is not enough to live off of.

• Social security is meant for a bonus that you receive after retirement to add onto your retirement funds. There is nothing negative meant by this program it is simply to help retired citizens out by the supplement to retirement checks. Those that are against this program do not clearly see the benefits of Social security. By looking into this presentation you will see that many people can be impacted by this program, it is a positive thing. What I want people to understand is that the reason behind Social Security is to help people out when they are retired and no longer receive monthly or annual paychecks anymore. These people still have to take care of their families, car payment, house payment, food, etc. How else would they purchase these necessities without somewhat of an income. This is what social security provides for us, it can impact many people’s lives and will benefit anyone who decides to take up on this amazing
