Social work values are the core of a Social Worker. We have to obey by these to serve our community and to help others when they need it the most. These values keep us up and running to serve and protect. When a voice needs to be heard we are that voice, we are that advocate for the young and old, sick and helpless. Values again are the key to everything a Social worker is and will ever be. We are their light at the end of a dark tunnel. Social Workers are abided by six Values: Service, Social Justice, Dignity and worth of the person, Importance of Human relationships, Integrity, and Competence. Growing up I was always a happy child and I loved everything and anyone. I wanted to help out in any way I could. Bringing peace between others to …show more content…
There are two social work values I chose that were influenced by my beliefs. Social Justice and Dignity and Self-Worth of a Person. According to
Robbinson (2006), "promoting a just society by challenging injustice and valuing diversity." It exists when "all people share a common humanity and therefore have a right to equitable treatment, support for their human rights, and a fair allocation of community resources.". My Social Justice definition is actually quite similar to that of Appalachian States. I believe Social Justice has been an advocate for someone when they need it. Also making sure there are outcomes of the greater good when there are situations of Social injustice. Creating a more diverse community allows for others to feel welcome which empowers and makes everyone feel like they are welcome. My understanding of Social Injustice is the same as my definition in which we need to be there for the ones who can’t speak up themselves and need us, Social Workers, to help them. Social Justice has always been a part of my life. My Senior of high school brought on a lot of grief. Senior year was the year where we would declare our college and plan our futures.
