1. The Social worker's role in this scenario was to act as a counselor for inmates who were in a drug rehab problem. This program was located inside of a correctional facility that is located in Willamette Valley. Since the location of this program is inside of a prison it leads to many different roles and responsibilities. One of the many responsibilities of our social worker is to act as a support program and counselor. The social worker is there in hopes of supporting the inmates and they are trying to become clean from the drug wether it be alcohol or other drugs of that sorts. Another responsibility is that the social worker is also a guard. This was proven with the Bureau's motto of, " You are a correctional worker first" (Grobman, 2012). This means that they are also responsible for watching out for the inmates so that they do not harm each other and that they also do not harm the guards that ar inside of the prison. …show more content…
I think that the formal names are very important in this line of work. The formal names create a sense of respect to the social worker who is their teacher in a sense. It also allows the inmates to feel as though that they are being respected by the social worker rather than compared to if they were called their first name. I believe that the sense of respect instilled to the inmate also encourages them to work hard to achieve their goal of being drug free. I also believe that the formal titles allow the social worker to have some separation from the prisoners so they do not feel as though that they need to do things for the prisoners along the lines of smuggling drugs in or doing different favors for
