Prior to this lesson, I had a basic understanding of sociology. I knew that sociology focused on the “big picture” rather than individual issues. I also knew that sociology is an academic field that focuses on research. What I did not realize is how closely it relates to other social science field such as Criminal Justice and Social Work. As a Criminal Justice major I have spent the past three years focusing on courts, policing and probation. I now have the opportunity to look at these from a sociological perspective as I continue through this course. For example, when it comes to the Criminal Justice system sociologists focus on the inner workings such as inequalities and how they might work with other institutions as a social structure. I
