What is your preferred definition of sociology?

Sociology looks at understanding all aspects of human social behaviours, including the behaviour of individuals, small groups, large organisations and entire societies. The study of social science, which is constantly evolving and growing, uses various methods of empirical investigation and critical analysis to develop the specific knowledge about human social actions, social structure and functions.

Sociologists are problem solvers looking for answers to organizational issues in communities of people designing research projects to test theories about social issues also drawing conclusions from data. A sociologist has to look at things from an open mind evaluating everything from every perception necessary.

Sociology is to look at the world through these eyes of a sociologist on how we perceive people and their actions. The traditional focus’ of sociology include;
- Social stratification
- Social class
- Social mobility
- Religion
- Secularization
- Law
- Deviance the most looked at topics investigated and acknowledged by sociologist are family, relationships, sex, race, ethnicity, gender and environmental issues, sociology provides many distinctive perspectives on the world, generating new ideas and critiquing the old. The field offers a range of research techniques that can be virtually applied to any aspect of social life, for example;
- Street crime
- Corporate downsizing
- How people express
