A jew marching was passing through Molching and an old Jewish man stumbles to his feet. Hans gets a piece of bread from his paint cart and hands it to the old man. Before the old man can eat it a soldier whips both Hans and the Jew. Everyone saw and called him a Jew lover. The reason I put this song in the playlist is because Hans didn’t see a problem with Jews. He did not believe in hitlers rules of hatred against Jews. The songs says “I believe if god is real he’d never judge a man.” I think that’s also what Hans believed based on his actions and attitude in the book.

Because of Hans previous actions with a Jew, it is no longer safe for max to live in the Hubermanns
