Toni Morrison’s Song Of Solomon shows how different events can shape a person's identity. Milkman has to go back to his roots to learn about his true self. In the beginning of the novel Milkman is more self centered and does not care about others as much. However when he begins to find more information about his background he begins to regret the way he has treated other people in the past. Milkman used Hagar for a while but when he was hunting in the forest he realized he should not have treated her so horribly. Sadly when he came back Hagar was already dead from heartbreak.
