Assignment 8

Bernadette Mayer in “Sonnet” (A thousand apples) appears to be going through some sort of break up in her life and essentially is telling the man to remove himself from her world. She occupies this fearless and powerful attitude that one respectively must admire when taking into context the situation her poem is describing. She also possesses a jealous driven tone throughout the poem, stating “the stingy notions of the bedded heterosexual” (Mayer 4), which makes it appear that she potentially was cheated on by the man. As she furthers on throughout the poem she illustrates her frustration and anger towards the individual she had the relationship with.
