Sound of Silence by, Simon and Garfunkel relates to the scene in ‘Death of a Salesman’ by, Arthur Miller in which Willy has a flash back of his dead brother Ben. He is playing cards with Charley when he sees his brother walk in and begins to talk to him. “Hello darkness, my old friend, I’ve come to talk to you again” (Garfunkel, Simon). Willy has a conversation with Ben as he is talking to Charley, leaving him confused as Willy is talking to himself. Charley must ask Willy “what are you talkin’ about?” after Willy continues to speak into empty space (Act 1, 31). Ben frequently visits Willy in the midst of important moments. Willy is alone with his thoughts, no one understanding what is going on with him and his fleeting mental health.

Taking care of his parents and treating them with respect, especially his father was something he had never done before.
