Imagine if the United States had power over South America by colonizing. Colonizing a country means to take over that country for their resources and to make them have a stronger economy and government. There are many places in the world that have been colonized, Africa is one of them. Because of Africa's great resources and location, many countries wanted to colonize with them. Colonizing a country can have advantages and disadvantages, it can be a very difficult decision either to take over that country or not. If the United States colonized any struggling countries in South America, the outcome of this would be negative. The US should not colonize South America because, the people's lives' would be greatly altered and taken advantage …show more content…
South America and the US would not get any benefit from this colonization. Africa did not get any benefits when the Europeans took over. This is because the Africans did not buy any of the European goods when they thought they would greatly (World history: Patterns of interaction, 2009, pg. 776). Africa already had many resources, therefore the goods that the Europeans brought over were no good for them so the Europeans got no money like they thought they would. Since neither side got any benefits, the decision of the US colonizing South America may have no advantages also which can be risky for the US wasting time to try colonizing. As well as, “ Famines resulted from the change to cash crops in place of subsistence agriculture” (World history: Patterns of interaction, 2009, pg. 784). People started to starve since their food crops got displaced as cash crops from the Europeans. This is no benefit to the Africans at all since they are suffering from no food. In conclusion, if the US colonized South America, neither country would get a great amount of benefits compared to the outcome of Europe colonizing …show more content…
The US could get benefits from South America’s fresh water and good minerals like copper. According to National Geographic, “South America has diverse agricultural products, vast mineral wealth, and plentiful freshwater… rich fisheries and ports on three bodies of water: the Caribbean Sea, Atlantic Ocean, and Pacific Ocean. The continent’s economy is centered on the export of natural resources” (National Geographic, N.D., para. 2). South America has many resources that the US could use, such as the fresh water and agricultural products. These resources could benefit the US in many ways. Although, these resources will eventually start to run out from cash crops that the US will create on top of the crops they already have. However, these resources will soon run out from cash crops taking over the farms like it did in Africa which caused starvation to the farmers families and the rest of the people in Africa. This causes the population decrease, independence being taken away. The reason for colonizing South America is to mainly get resources while taking power to help lead these struggling countries, but those intentions are very similar to Europe’s previous colonizing which outcome was mostly negative. For example, the outcome was negative from the “benefits” that the Europeans brought to Africa.
