People,Pride and Poverty

I am investigating poverty in Venezuela. I am doing this investigation to find out if and how poverty has grown or decreased since Chavez been president. One article talks about rural poverty in Venezuela and this will help me understand how poverty is in rural areas.
Another article is about Venezuela’s economy. This will give me a better understanding on if their economy reflect the large number of poor citizens. One article explains how poverty is measured in the country and how the poverty rate compare to different years. This article is helpful because it tells me how Venezuela value poverty and how the poverty changed over time. Another article is about Venezuela mission to fight poverty. This will be helpful because it will let me know what the government did to try to prevent the poverty rate from increasing.
There are two ways to measure poverty in Venezuela. There is income and structural poverty. Income poverty is short term poverty related to inflation and unemployment. Income poverty measure if you can provide the basic food basket and basic essential products and services. You are considered poor if you are below the line. You are considered extremely poor if you can not afford the basic food basket to feed everyone in your household. From
2010 to 2013 income poverty increased from 26.8% to 27%. It did decrease in 2013, the previous year it was 29.4%. Structural poverty is long term and is related to education, economic growth, and productivity. Structural poverty measures non monetary indicators of well being related to service and infrastructure. Structural poverty is based on access to primary age schooling, presence of critical overcrowding, quality of housing, access to basic public service and level of economic dependency less susceptible to fluctuation in income and inflation. You are considered poor if one basic need is unmet, but you are extremely poor if two or more is unmet. From 1999 to 2013 the structural poverty has been reduced from
29.3% to 19.6%.
Chavez was elected on a platform to break Venezuela’s old political system, end corruption and pay more attention to the poor. Chavez made a new constitution. The constitution break the political system and made more programs to assist the poor. Most of the programs were called different types of missions.There were six major missions, but they were not very successful as a whole.
