It is said that using corporal punishment, such as spanking, can cause negative outcomes in the future of children such as, psychological problems, substance abuse, delinquency, and antisocial behavior according to Child Trends’ research. The influence of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission caused the federal Liberals to agree to have a section of the law removed. That section of the law was the allowance for parents to spank their children without any fear of prosecution. Some of the reasons they claim to spank their children is, out of love for them, the parents need to be respected, giving the child self-control, give them restraint or set standards, and it is the best possible way to get them to listen or show that what they did was wrong, all according to Madamenoire.
