This article is about how a man that gets into a car accident and now has to use a wheelchair. He starts to get new special treatment due to his wheelchair and he becomes used to this. It starts out with small things like people just smiling to him where he feels they only do because he is in wheelchair and doing other nice favors for him. He then starts to abuse people kindness for him by cutting lines and sneaking beverages and cigars to places where they are not allowed to go into. People let him do as he pleases or offer him special services and opportunities due to his disability. He gets these special privileges until he runs into a blind man and no one is there to back him up, and he realizes that he is not the top priority of people with disabilities. The audience is nondisabled people because it shows them how life is for him and the special privileges he gets. The thesis of this paper is “That was the first time I felt my new place in society”. The supporting points in this paper are being prioritized over other people even if they are pregnant, getting to cut lines, and being able to sneak items into places. This paper was organized by interest of each story from the least interesting to the most. For example he started out talking about how he can sneak beer into concerts, then later tells a story about taking illegal cigars through the airport. Birnbaum has a good introduction because it really hooks the reader with an interesting story that puts the reader in his shoes and shows
