“There is no ‘I’ in team.” A quote that many people today are realizing to be true. People all over the world are understanding the benefits of playing with a sports team, such as teaching communication, encouraging teamwork, and getting active. Playing with a sports team teaches communication. Without communicating, the team will not be effective. If an athlete does not communicate with their teammate on the playing field, they may collide with each other, or neither may make the play and cause the whole team to lose points or look bad. Communication is also needed at school, so if a student is shy, learning how to talk to and encourage others on the playing field can help them in the classroom as well, so that when the student is called on, he or she can at least not know the answer with confidence. In a workplace, communication is key, so learning at an early age how to speak to, and work well with others may assist in getting a job later on in life. …show more content…
An athlete, no matter how talented, cannot win a team event on their own; they have to work with their teammates to successfully achieve the goal. Playing on a sports team forces an athlete to work with others, or else their team will not be efficient. Teamwork also helps control an athlete's emotions. If an athlete struggles with controlling anger, frustration, or other strong emotions, then being on a team can help to control those emotions, so when they mess up on a routine play, they learn not to throw a fit, but to forget about it and move on. Teamwork is also taught through accountability. People on and off the playing field need to take responsibility for their actions, and one messing up on a play and admitting they are wrong is a great way to
