In the novel, “Runner" By Robert Newton the main character Charlie is grieving the death of his father. He hoped that Squizzy Taylor the man he worked under, a businessman would be a new father figure for him. As much as he wanted that he soon realised he was wrong. Firstly, Charlie wanted Squizzy to be a new father figure to be there for him through hard times and to protect his family. His Ma being a women with two young children in those days made the family an easy target. Squizzy didn't for fill this role as his approach to problems was extreme violence in unnecessary circumstances. A plain and simple businessman was not what he turn out to be but instead a money thirsty criminal who portrayed a negative images on others.
