Lacrosse

In this speech I will be talking about when Lacrosse was invented, how it is played, and the positions of Lacrosse are. I chose to talk about this topic because I play Lacrosse and I want you to know more about it.
First seen by the French missionary St. Lawrence in 1640, Lacrosse was first begun by the Native Americans, namely the Iroquois tribe. They were playing a Lacrosse game while St. Lawrence was watching them play, he called it “Lacrosse” meaning “The Stick” in english (filacrosse.com). It was meant to toughen up young warriors for battle, but it was also an outlet for war between tribes. It was also played for fun and religious reasons, but it was common for bets to be placed on the outcome of the game. (Face-off video). There are many penalties in Lacrosse, a few are Slashing, Cross-checking, and tripping. Slashing is where the player lifts the stick above their head and “slashes” the opposing player with the stick by bring it down on them. Cross-checking is where the player holds the end of the stick and holds one hand near the head and hits the other player with the part of the stick in between. Tripping is where the player trips the other player with their stick, foot, arm, etc. Ground balls is when the ball is on the ground and you pick it up. Passing/catching is basic fundamentals of Lacrosse. To cradle is to constantly move the stick, with the ball in the pocket, up and down from your hip to you head in a swinging motion.To shoot is when you have he ball and you lift the stick up and bring it down and release the ball very quickly at the
