St Vincent De Pauls

St Vincent De Pauls, known commonly as ‘Vinnies’, is a Catholic organisation that aspires to live the gospel message by serving Christ in the poor and vulnerable. The organisation responds to God’s call through direct action, providing shelter, food and water and comfort. They value commitment, compassion and respect among their key principles. They act with the message of Colossians 3: 12-17, a passage from the bible that instructs us to follow in God’s footsteps, loving and serving all.

At St Vincent’s they value commitment, loyalty in service to the mission, vision and values. This is a trait that can be seen in the many volunteers and dedicated workers that commit their time and energy into helping the cause. With over 950, 000 members spread over 149 countries, the organisation promotes mutual love, compassion and dedication between volunteers and people in need. “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Employees strive to convey the message of this scripture

The workers show compassion through their actions by volunteering to help other people, no matter what their race, gender or religion is. The Vinnies team are motivated to spread the word of God, by calling people to act with compassion, love and understanding, not only for themselves and direct friends and family, but to anyone and everyone. In the scripture it says, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.” Compassion is showing this peace through words and actions, which is what the St Vincent’s people strive to show and achieve. It is important to live out this message in our lives today, not only because it makes you feel good, but because it makes others feel good to. Vinnies aspire to live this message, and share it with people who cannot see it
