Stankos Psychopath

In 2005, Stephen Stanko murdered his girlfriend and sexually assaulted and stabbed her daughter who later called the police.He was charged with the murder of his girlfriend and was sentenced to death. While watching "Murder on his Mind" video, I wasn't fully convinced that Stankos was a psychopath.However, I do think that Stephen Stankos is mentally ill. Even though I wasn't so sure that Stankos was a psychopath, I decided to look up the case. When I did I found some interesting things that did convince me that he is a psychopath.

According to the textbook, a psychopath also known as antisocial personality disorder. According to the book, antisocial personality disorder is "a personality disorder in which the person exhibits a lack of conscience for wrongdoing, even towards friends and family members" (Myers,664).This can explain why he may be emotionless. Now something I'd like to point out is that his lawyer was trying to defend him by saying that he was insane when he murdered his girlfriend. Stankos had told a psychiatrist that he didn't remember murdering his girlfriend which can explain the insanity defense.

Most psychopaths have PET scans where there's little to no activity in the front of the brain. According to the book, a PET scan is " a visual display of brain activity that detects where a radioactive form of glucose goes while the brain performs a given task"(Myers,67). I noticed in figure 49.2 on page 665 that the murderer's PET scan looked very similar to Stanko's PET scan. According to Dr. Sachy, if Ted Bundy was alive he would've almost had the same PET scan as Stephen
