In “Star Food,” Dade’s parents have very different values and personalities. Dade’s father believes that hard work and discipline is the key to living a good life. His mother thinks that dreaming and searching will make Dade a great man.
Julian from “Everything That Rises Must Converge” is willing to embrace the new and accept integration. His mother clings onto the past. She thinks that her past family position defines her self-worth, and she is racist.
“The Bet” shows a banker and lawyer with different perceptions of life. The banker believed that capital punishment was more merciful than lifelong imprisonment. The lawyer thought that lifelong imprisonment was better than no life at all.
I think that people with varying views can teach others

The woman in Star Food was a shoplifter who Dade felt a connection to. He made it his goal to capture the woman, but he ended up letting her go.
