Starting school at a later time is great for the students and for the staff. Having the school start at 7:30 is hard for the students to be engaged early in the morning and teachers get frustrated because of that. Lots of students get low grades because they’re tired and can’t concentrate. Even starting school later saves money for the school district.

Research says that teens need 9 hours of sleep, but they can’t get the needed sleep. Many teens including me have jobs after school and then homework so they can’t go to sleep until midnight. At best teenagers get 6 hours of sleep everyday, there is 3 hours of sleep that is still needed for teenagers at night on school nights. However, school has always started around the same time across the country, so changing it might be a big problem. A lot of people don’t like change, so changing people’s mindset about school times will take some time. There is a problem for the students that have practice after school, but staying later for it is worth for them.

There are schools throughout the country that starting school later in the day to save money and have students sleep more before coming to school. School boards have changed their time just for the sake of seeing that the grades improve in their school. when students are tired, like every human, they can’t be at their best when it comes to academics. Students that are tired don’t learn as well and their attention span is shortened (http://www.startschoollater.net/). Teachers have commented at their classroom environment has improved and their more alert, less moody, and less likelihood to fall back asleep on the teacher
