In the last few years, our world has been transformed- largely due to innovation. Innovations in many different categories, such as medicine, transportation, and technology, immensely impacted our ways of doing things. Examples include ART therapy for HIV/AIDS infected individuals, the steam engine, and the telephone. ART therapy is a type of treatment that uses a combination of several antiretroviral medicines used to slow the rate at which HIV copies itself (multiplies) in the body. The innovation of the steam engine has made it possible to improve the way humans transport items. It has also allowed for new inventions to take place. The telephone made communication easier and faster. Innovations can affect ways of life by improving the quality …show more content…
Thomas Newcomen invented the first, real working steam engine. The steam engine converts the thermal energy into mechanical energy of a rotating shaft that can then supply a variety of different devices with energy. Due to the innovation of the steam engine, the steamboat could be invented. A steamboat is a boat or vessel that is powered by a steam engine. In “Steamboats and the expansion of trade” by Caryn E Neumann, Neumann talks about the steam engine-powered steamboat and how efficient it was in comparison to other vessels. In the text it says, “Steamboats could ship freight more quickly than the competition, while traveling easily in both directions in all weather conditions” (Neumann). The steamboat traveled an average of 50 miles a day, whereas other vessels could only carry out approximately 20 a day. They were cheaper because of the particular material that was utilized as fuel to supply the engine. Another example that shows the steam engine improved quality of life is by how it provided energy to industries. In the text it says, “The steam engine…It’s development meant that mechanical energy could be available wherever there was an adequate supply of fuel” (Neumann). Mechanical energy was mainly available through wind, and flowing or falling water. The use of the steam engine was a more convenient alternative to power equipment such …show more content…
Although that is a good point, there are many programs that are created specifically to prevent that from occurring. In “SMIM OFFERS SOCIAL MEDIA IDENTITY THEFT PROTECTION” it says, “ for nearly 40 years, IdentityForce, Inc. has provided best-in-class, highly scalable, identity theft, privacy… to consumers, businesses, and government agencies.” Without the Internet, how would industries and companies even function? Innovations in all categories are necessary to improve the way we
