It never ceases to amaze me what scientists continue to discover. There are constantly new discoveries on how to cure people from certain diseases or illnesses that they may have. One of the latest discoveries scientists have come across for curing certain sicknesses is stem cell therapy. This is the topic that I plan to cover in this research paper. In doing research I was actually impressed but I never even knew this kind of stuff existed or could be done. The first thing I will be discussing is what stem cells are along with what stem cell therapy is. In general cells are groups of undifferentiated cells that can differentiate into specific cell types (Crosta, 2008). There is more than one group of type of cells. Three types of stems would be core-blood stem cells, embryonic stem cells, and induced pluripotent stem cells. These are all the various types of stems cell that can be used in stem cell therapy. Stem cell therapy is when they go into inject the human body with stem cells to repair damaged tissues and organs in the body due to various illnesses (Furph, 2008). Basically, scientists are finding that these stems are able to cure organs that may be damaged in the body. …show more content…
On one hand I see where this can be a great thing for people but on the other hand I feel like it is a risk and there just aren't enough questions that are answered. Not only that but I read that they have to destroy embryos to retrieve some of the cells which in my opinion is just wrong. So while I do see where this can be a great thing I also think that it be a negative thing. I guess I wouldn't try this if I needed it know that I could either get cancer or a tumor or that they would have to destroy embryos. In my opinion that just seems so wrong. Then again if it gave me a chance at recovering from something I might feel differently. I guess I am just on the fence about the whole
