Stephanie Kwolek, a chemist from New Kingston, Pennsylvania, was born on July 31, 1923. Her parents were John Kwolek and Nellie Kwolek. When Kwolek was young she only loved two things, science which she got from her father, and fabrics which she got from her mother. Growing up she knew one day she would have to decide which one she would have to choose as a career, she ended up getting a two in one deal. When Kwolek was ten years old her father died leaving her to love science even more than she already did (Famous Scientists, 2014). Her invention has changed the world in so many ways. Our police officers and army can feel more safe going into war, or a situation where without these vests they may not come out alive. These vests also save civilians during a crisis.
The vest isn’t the only product of the Kevlar inventions that has changed the world. The fiber optic cables have changed the speed of internet, were we can get internet, and phone services. Today the best internet, and most popular internet, is any type, as long as they use fiber optics. Most internet companies have switched over to fiber optics, because that is what consumers want. The uses for Kevlar aren’t only helping save people’s lives, but some of the uses are also for other activities. These things include the parachutes, skis, and canoes. During my research I never found anything about Kwolek marrying or having children of her own. She may have never started a family, but her work in chemistry saved many families.
