Stepping Stone Nursery School: A Case Study

A collateral interview was conducted with Ms. Rosanna Rizzo, director of Stepping Stone Nursery School. Eleni was enrolled in the program from 2012 through 2014. It is reported that she also participated in a couple of summer camps. During the school year she attended pre-kindergarten Monday thru Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

It is reported by Ms. Adler that Eleni was in her Pre-Kindergarten class in 2013-2014. She indicated that the child was late and absent over a handful of times, due to doctor appointments or an allergic reaction that caused a stomachache. She indicated that the child always had food concerns, not eating properly. She wanted specific food every day and then would not eat the food she requested. At times, her work was grade level appropriate. She was able to trace letters, she knew all her uppercase and lowercase letters, shapes, and colors. She even knew many sight words on the Kindergarten level. She was able to cut and paste without adult assistance. There were no academic, learning or behavioral issues for the child. The child did not have any IEP The child had appropriate peer relationships; however, Eleni displayed a great deal of anxiety when separated from friends or her parents. She tended to stay around the teachers rather than her peers. It appeared that the child wanted to be with adults more than children. She would always complement teachers on their clothing. She interacted appropriately, but she was very attached to the teachers and wanted to spend most of her play time with them. She was always more interested in what the teachers were doing than that of her peers.

The mother communicated concerns during the parent teacher conference night and had spoken to me a few times about her anxiety. The mother attended the conference. I do not recall if dad was
