When you imagine Canada celebrating 150 years, you see fireworks, big extravagant parties, parades, and spending time having fun. But for most indigenous people in Canada, it isn’t a day to be celebrating for them. From all the murders that are unsolved, to the residential schools, and the stereotypes, they will be looking forward to the next 150 years and all the good it may bring. In this world, there are many stereotypes. Why do we have stereotypes? We can learn them from our parents, online, on television, they’re everywhere. There are stereotypes for everything out there. For indigenous people, the stereotypes are everywhere. This has an effect on their communities, and on them as people.

For example, Nadine Machiskinic was plunged down a laundry chute 10 stories high. Now, this woman was also in sex trade. It’s a high risk job, but it should never lead to being thrown down a laundry chute. This investigation is still open, but many haven’t been thought about for several years. The police threw them aside to focus on other “important” things to work on. Women should never be treated this way, and their families deserve to know what happened to them.
