Whenever we hear the word “slavery” we think immediately about the Southern United States, But what many people don’t know is that Slavery comes from way before The American Revolutionary War. The revolutionary war was a war between the colonies and from those derived the French War and the Indian War. This war was mostly for the control of America. During the war colonies faced lack of supplies such as food, weapons, blankets, and most important soldiers. After seven long years this war finally ended with the Declaration of Independence in July 4 1776. Moreover, some of the enslaved people were smart enough and were able to fight for their freedom during the war and move more to the North were they requested the Anti-Slavery Petition to Massachusetts.

The petition made by the slaves starts off by saying that as any other men they are all equal and have the right to become free of being slaves “ Petitioners apprehend that they have in common with all other men a natural and unalienable right to that freedom” (excerpt from the African American Anti-Slavery Petition to Massachusetts Legislature). Instead, the slaves that were fighting for this petition knew their rights and what the constitution meant. In other words, this lead to them fighting for their freedom, because they knew that under the eyes of the constitution they were to be free. “ That whenever any form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it”( excerpt from the declaration of independence). Meaning that whenever the rights of anyone is violated by any type of government, that person has the right to fight for it, because it is stated in the Constitution.
