Have you ever thought about being able to completely become unattached from the world surrounding you? Or if you lost the thing you love the most in this world? Have you ever wondered what it would be like if everything around you would stop? Except only your mind would continue racing; collecting all of your thoughts. “Some Clouds” is written about a man who a completely unplugs from everything and goes to a place where he is able to think about his life. One of the people he loves most passes, as his memories with her follows him. He comes to a realization about how much this person meant to him and how much she has impacted his life. It is used to describe and tell about the speakers feelings. Through the poem it consistently uses ways to show the effects this death has affected his emotions and life. Connotative words like “broken” and “nothingness” give the poem a negative and depressing tone. The mood and attitude used here is reflective upon how he feels. After he lost this person his tone completely switches and was given a more negative attitude. Steve Kowit say “the woman I once loved” (Line 9) showing how he is doubtful that he loved her now/ He think that making himself believe he never loved her could make this whole thing easier. Given this it seems impossible for him to forget knowing that deeper inside him he holds unconditional love for her. This doubtfulness resembles how his feelings has affected him in more ways he could have imagined. (Line 12) “Yes, thank you, I’ve heard” is an example of hoe the speaker is in denial and can not control to hear it another time. Even as time goes on, to this man, It will never become a normal part of his life. And his emotions will follow him. The phrase, “by a few billowing clouds,” (Line 25) accurately symbolizes back to the title Some Clouds. Meaning he is alone and will take this moment to be alone. The speaker is in full resentment. Overall the tone is often established through out the poem giving it a negative and sad tone and attitude.
