The narrative is speaking about a woman that has lost the love of her life and is having to deal with grief. She feels very heartbroken as if nothing will ever be the same. As she is preparing for the arrangement for the funeral she makes sure everything is up to part and people are notified. “Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone” is the expression the narrative gives off as wanting to be alone. As the poem ends it brings an image as if the narrative began to clean and pack up her love one belongings leaving her to reminisce about all the beautiful days they once shared.
