Sexual abusers have flown under the radar for many years. The victims of this abuse were once too scared to come into the light about their situation, but just in the last year or two, an abundance of victims outed their abusers. From actors, to directors, and even doctors, these abusers all had power over their victims, and that power was silence. Not only did the abusers have the power of silence, but also authority over their victims. Awareness of this abuse may have stopped quite a few abusers from inflicting their mental and physical pain on future victims, but it cannot stop them all. In order to end sexual abuse for good, we need to punish the abusers in far worse ways than our society previously had. Instead of permitting them just a few years in prison before they are granted parole, they should receive a minimum of fifty years for their committed crimes. After admitting to their actions, these abusers should not be allowed to walk freely in the world.

Because they were all highly viewed as individuals, people casually let them do whatever they wanted. Enablement is a huge part of why sexual abuse has continued throughout the years. If our society keeps allowing so called ‘higher ranked’ individuals unlimited power, of course sexual abuse will continue. We as a society must band together in order to stop the physiological pain and suffering abuse causes. Some kids who were once abused turn into abusers themselves. This does not absolve the situation at hand, it only creates a lasting cycle that will be on a continuous loop for the rest of time. In order to stop sexual abuse for good, we must first terminate
