In the “Story of an Hour” and the song “Listen” by Beyoncé both have one thing in common, independency. They both desire to be heard and to be their own voice. The only difference here is that one gets the chance to express her feelings while the other one becomes a victim of her own. Women were only to think about independency privately. It was prohibited for them to do certain things or talk a certain way. The reaction of Louise in the beginning was a bit more aggressive than other women, which is understandable because of the different emotions she was going through after hearing the news.
