Control your own Happiness A creative plot twist always catches a reader’s attention. In the short story “The Story of an Hour” the author Kate Chopins surprises the readers with a surprising plot twist. Chopins really uses her imagination to write an entertaining story that reveals irony in a young woman’s marriage. Chopins explains how one person shouldn’t determine your happiness and freedom. “The Story of an Hour” is about a young lady name Louise Mallard who just discovers that she is a widow. Mrs. Mallard has very bad and fragile heart that everyone is aware of. Mallard sister Josephine and her husband friend Richard is afraid to tell her that her husband passed away in a railroad accident because of her fragile heart. When Mallard received this information she began to cry in Josephine’s arms and managed to go upstairs to her room. When Mrs. Mallard was in her room she had some kind of shocking breakthrough. Mrs. Mallard was feeling .all different types of emotions and abandonment. Mallard began to sit in front of an open window and she began to go into deep thought. As Mrs. Mallard sat at the window in deep thought, instead of feeling sad and mourning the loss of her husband Brently, instead she felt a sign of release and freedom from something holding her back from living her life. Mrs. Mallard felt a surprising since of happiness and joy deep down on the inside of her. Mrs. Mallard was able to look pass the sadness and hurt of losing a loved one and she was able to realize losing her husband was her way of finding herself and setting herself free. “Free!
