In the film Straight Outta Compton and the film Drumline there are numerous black community issues that they both encounter and some that vary. In the film Straight Outta Compton the black community faces the struggle of poverty, police harassment, safety, gangs, drugs and the fear of failure. In the film Drumline the black community struggles with succeeding, acting as one group, training to be in the band, finding the perfect music to perform and growing as musicians. Together these films face the same issue of succeeding with their overall goal and being underestimated at what they do. There is a scene in the movie where students are yelling out of a school bus at the people driving the car next to them and the drivers pulls the car in front of the bus and gang members enter the bus with guns; the gang members then threatened to kill the student who was talking to them out of the bus window. This scene is just a depiction of the kind of safety people have in the neighborhood of Compton. Also, in this film there is a scene where Ice Cube was arrested and harassed by police just because he was in a certain part of his neighborhood, this scene is an example of the struggle of racism. In another scene Dr. Dre is a victim to police brutality just because he didn't leave when the police officer told him to. Another struggle the black community faces in this film is poverty. The people who live in the community of Compton appear to be dressed in poor clothing such as snap backs, and worn down clothes that are casual and drive old rusty cars. According to (www.trauma.org) “Compton's poverty rate is twice the national average and its murder rate is five times the national average”, which is depicted in the movie. People in this movie also are struggling to find income so characters in this film are trying to get exposure as rappers by starting a music
