Living a dysfunctional life is living life, as if it is unlimited of all choices that are never ending. In the documentary Streetwise, there are several kids who live dysfunctional homeless lives. In a life of unstableness, and no “support”, all they wanted was to be free from all the misery they were going through in their homes. In my opinion lack of the most important things in these young kids’ lives besides money, was the issue. The dysfunctional life the youths in the documentary were living, probably made them want to go homeless because of reasons such as, they were not getting no kind of love and care, one or both of the parents exploit the child or take the child for granted, or they were searching for something they just couldn’t …show more content…

Statistics say that brain images have now revealed that a mother’s love physically affects the volume of her child’s hippocampus. In the study, children of nurturing mothers had hippocampal volumes 10 percent larger than children whose mothers were not as nurturing. (Castro, Joseph 2012) Tiny was just looking for love and support from her mother but could not really seem to get that with her mother’s nonchalant attitude towards her.
In Streetwise some of the kids were taken for granted and exploited by their own parents.
Rat was one victim of being taken granted by his parents, Rat said
“When I first ran away and came here to Seattle, I was tired of being the middleman between my mom and my dad's divorce” Rat must of felt more used than actually loved by his own parents, they were so blinded by their own problems that they forgot that they actually had a child not a lawyer. “Children may be forced to take sides between parents, experience reality shifting or be ignored discounted and criticized for their feelings and thoughts” (Counseling Center at University Of Illinois Urbana-Champaign) When things started to go bad after Rat left, Rat called in a month later and heard his mother crying on the phone about how things are going downhill without him there, Rat found himself somewhat trapped in that mindset again and hung the phone
