The plan for this war was called the Schlieffen Plan, and it was drawn up for a secure victory of German tacticians against Russia and France. Count von Schlieffen is the man who came up with this Plan, and he constructed it by studying Russia’s military performance in its war with Japan in 1905. His Plan involved some of the German troops entering France’s lightly-guarded northern borders, but most of the troops would enter through the small nations of Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands instead. The Schlieffen Plan did end up changing the war. Because of the Plan’s failure to succeed, it ushered in the era of trench warfare. The trench warfare was what linked up to World War
