The use of strobes, bright colored lights, and spotlights created a dramatic punk rock atmosphere for Hedwig and the Angry Inch. The lights coursed power and anger and energy. There were constantly a stream of flashing lights or bright colored lights focused on the stage. It really included you in the show and without it, the production wouldn’t have been so dramatic.
A bright egg-white strobe light was used to outline Hedwig while she performed. It created a box around only her that stayed in the same spot. You can conclude that she felt trapped in a box and could never break free, at least until the end of the play. It was almost scary to watch because strobes are heavily used in haunted houses and you don’t know what could happen next. The power she used in her voice to sing the song only added to the effect. The use of the strobe light made you put all your focus on her because it was so intense and all the other lights were dimmed.

It was a deep pumpkin-orange color that, with the use of the gobo, looked cloudy and eerie. The lights stayed across the ceiling, but the lights above the drummer’s place were also the orange color. Orange was an interesting color to use because it’s a happy color, but they used it in almost a negative way. The song was pretty dark, but it was humorous because it was sung to Hedwig so she could fall asleep when she was younger.
The lights in the four metal cylinders holding the heads, flashed bright colors like Hedwig’s blue when she performed. The heads were already creepy, but it gave it more of an angry feel. Hedwig was an angry woman and the heads matched her anger when the lights flashed. These lights only flashed on the heads, but they created another box around the stage. It outlined the whole
