In this novel, through the examination of Johnson’s character and role as a “First Nations champion, New Woman, serious writer and performer, and Canadian nationalist,” Strong-Boag and Gerson argue the impact of Johnson’s work as a leading activist towards first wave feminism. By using a feminist and post-colonial framework, Strong-Boag and Gerson analyze Johnson’s contributions to the overall Canadian society.
