Transgender students in school and institutional settings often encounter barriers in their everyday life. One structural barrier is that transgender students might not want to use the restroom or the locker room. There are only two restrooms and locker rooms; male or female, there is no inbetween. There is no restroom designated for a transgender student. Even if there is a gender neutral restroom very few schools and institutional settings offer one. Unlike like transgender students, gay or lesbian students do not have to worry about which restroom or locker room to use, they use the one that is designated for their sex. However, if a transgender woman use the female’s restroom or locker room other females might become upset and if she use the male’s restroom or locker room she might be harassed by the men.…show more content… When teaching sexual education, schools will focus on heterosexual relationship. But there are many different types of sexual relationships from heterosexual to homosexual, pansexual and asexaul. Which is a similar experience for lesbian and gay students, schools never teach sexual education from a gay or lesbian perspective. Dress code is another barrier for transgender students. Girls have to wear skirts with knee-high socks or stockings and boys have to wear dress pants. Girls cannot wear dress pants and boys cannot wear skirts. This is a problem for transgender students because if a boy is assigned the male gender but he identifies as a female, and his school will not allow hims to wear female clothing because he is a boy. This might not be a problem for a gay student, but it might be a problem for lesbian student because some do not like to wear “typical girl clothes” while others
